Start with the barrier
An adjustment is most useful when it addresses a specific work barrier. For one person that may be interruption; for another it may be vague priorities, noisy space, memory load or difficulty switching between tasks.
Written priorities
Confirm key actions and deadlines in writing, especially after verbal discussions.
Protected focus blocks
Reduce unnecessary meetings and notifications during work that requires sustained concentration.
Milestones
Break long projects into interim deliverables instead of relying only on a distant final date.
Environmental options
Where the role allows, provide quieter locations, headphones, remote-focus blocks or flexible seating.
Do not create a universal ADHD package
Adjustments should be individualised, proportionate and compatible with the essential requirements of the role. The employee’s own account of what helps is central.
